I’m not sure about this one. It is almost like a cabbage leaf turned into a landscape. Hmm….
Well, they can’t all be winners, eh?
I think I lost my way somewhat, but hey–these are for learning, right? :)
Better luck tomorrow I think.
Back to work!

Back to work!
WeIl, it has been a while since my last post.
I’ve been a bit sick lately. Fever, chills, etc., and so forth.
It has lasted for days and I am only now off my back.
But at least I am back to painting!
I have much to catch up on, but I think I am well enough to get back to work. :)
The Ninja Mountain Podcast will be back to its usual shenanigans this week and I have some private commissions to see to along with a new contract job that I look forward to sharing soon.
Last week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Stephanie McLaughlin, networking guru of Savoir Faire Marketing Communications, on behalf of the New Hampshire Creative Club ( I am the organization’s current president). I recorded a podcast of our conversation.
Head on over to the site to give it a listen! She shares advice on the dying art of person-to-person networking.
( Just scroll down the page to find the link to the mp3 file).

Thanks for tuning in.
Be sure to check back often for new artwork. Things are going to liven up some around here now that I am back in saddle. :)
Today’s warm-up is on 5.5×8.5 watercolor paper from Montval.
I got it on sale at A.C. Moore. Not bad stuff!
Raw umber and a hint of purply red make up the palette on this one.
My wife also surprised me with a block of Arches 140 lb hot press watercolor paper which I am very excited to try out! I have a comic pin-up to do so I will be trying the new paper out on it. Can’t wait!
I just received photos of a dice bag I did for a charity auction while at GenCon.
I decided that Man-E-Faces from the Masters of the Universe would be perfect!
Look him up!
Here are some other GenCon pics for good measure. I just found them…
My booth! I was straining the size of the booth this year. I think it will be a four-panel display for next year.
A couple asked me to draw a “hand turkey” as we all did back in the grade school days.
I came up with this antediluvian monstrosity…Man! I got big mitts!
My good friend, Christopher Burdett. Check out his work at
http://christopherburdett.blogspot.com/
From left: my buddies, Paul “Prof” Herbert, Omar Rayyan, (me), Joe Acone ( obscured by my hugeness and dragon vest), and Don Higgins.
Well, that’s enough for today. Back to work!
Today’s warm-up piece ( watercolor on 6×12 paper) marks my return to the studio after a small absence. I was blasting away at a tight deadline that kept me from working on anything but the project!
That was immediately followed by a vehicle graphics install I had to do for a buddy of mine.
It is one of those weird skills I’ve picked up over my varied employment history. Imagine contact-papering a van and you get the basic idea.
Episode 79 of the Ninja Mountain Podcast was a blast to record. We released it late ( ish) on Friday and hope you enjoy!
I’ve been allowed to show a couple of my most recent pieces! It is for Headless Hydra’s upcoming book, Eldritch Secrets. Check out the publisher’s site! It’s going to be a great book that will happily accompany the Pathfinder RPG.
Here are a couple of my favorites from the assignments I worked on!
Both are watercolor and acrylic on Montval Acrylic Paper. It takes wet media very nicely and is perfect for my mixed media techniques.
Hope you like them. :)
Now I have to get cracking on a few commissions. I should be back tomorrow with another warm-up piece as I climb back into the saddle.
Onwards!
Today’s daily is a mix of ultramarine blue and viridian green on 4×6 paper.
It started as a general wash across the whole sheet and then I began picking out little areas of denser wash which suggested forms as I progressed.
Eventually, Neptune made his unexpected appearance. Were he Poseidon, I think he would be preparing to release the Krakken ( and sound an awful lot like Liam Neeson)!
I edited and released the 78th episode of the Ninja Mountain Podcast yesterday.
My buddy, Drew Baker, kindly joined me in laid-back chat about a wide variety of light topics.
It was a good time and I hope the listeners enjoy it while they work.
Now I must get back to work. I’ll be painting all Labor Day weekend to make a deadline!
The wayward life of the freelancer rears its many-horned head, once again. ;)
This is another bit of 4×6 goodness.
I haven’t been around the computer much these last few days. I’ve had to move my painting station to the air-conditioned living room for the time being while I churn away at a fast-approaching deadline.
The work is going well though.
I’ve also had opportunity to sit down with my buddy, Drew, for a podcast recording session so we’ll have a new episode of the show up this week!
I’ll be sure to post it soon.
Back to painting!
