It’s Friday!
Need I say more? :)
A day of painting awaits me here in the studio, so a nice warm-up seemed just the thing to get me going.
Meet “Violet”. I have no idea what she is….
Yesterday, we recorded episode 54 of the Ninja Mountain Podcast and I was able to get the show edited in time for an early release. It was a fun rambling conversation on a variety of light-hearted topics that I hope you will enjoy. :)
Now, onwards to the day’s work!
Raised from childhood to fight and die for the glory of Sparta!
This guy probably didn’t have a personal abs trainer, though…Hrmmmm…
Back to work!
Another weirdo escapes my computer screen.
Work continues apace on my recent assignments though I’ve still been slowed by a nasty cold. I think I am almost past the worst of it. ( crosses fingers)
Like all good freelancers,I’m also working on lining up my next projects and developing leads with new companies.
That has been an occasional weakness of mine where I focus so much on the current project that I fail to line up the next job. This can lead to a lot of thumb twiddling.
I consider it one of my new resolutions to be more active in developing new business for my studio.
I keep an eye out for open calls from companies posted to industry websites ( such as www.rpg.net). I look at what other artists are doing and who they’re doing it for.
I follow up on tips given to me by friends.
I find myself writing more emails than should be allowed. Ugh.
All part of the business of being in business, eh? :)
Back to it!
I’ve also got me some painting to do! I’ve just spray-fixed the watercolor stage of my next assignment and am about to slap down some acrylics. Can’t wait!
Man, I am dragging tail this week. Cough, cold, and my head seems ready to pop. Ugh.
Still, this fella kinda’ cheers me up. :)
I attended the grand-opening of the Manchester Girls’&Boys’ Club after an amazing renovation and expansion.
I pretty much grew up there and it was wonderful to see how the place has changed. They have a terrific new facility with which to continue their mission of providing a positive place to learn and grow for the children of Manchester. You can learn more about this organization at http://www.mbgcnh.org/
I edited this week’s podcast and posted it to the Ninja Mountain blog. Episode 53 is a really cool episode. We learned about copyright law from lawyer, Linda Kattwinkel. She is part of the law office of Owen, Wickersham & Erickson ( www.owe.com).
She was very generous with her time and answered our many questions. I hope you’ll give it a listen.
An understanding of copyright is so important to the practicing illustrator. To learn more about copyright and intellectual property, you can read Linda’s column, “Legalities“, published through the law office’s website.
Have a great weekend, all, and thanks for reading. :)
A snowy morning here in New Hampshire finds me at my cozy drawing board with another warm-up and more work to do. :)
Hope you dig the undead wizard fellow.
I dropped the misses off at work and on my way back I was cut off in traffic by a SUV with the license plate reading “CLASSY”. Is this a proper example of the term, “irony” ?
Busy day today.
Tomorrow is going to be crazy. An interview for the Ninja Mountain Podcast with copyright lawyer, Linda Kattwinkel; a volunteering event at the Manchester Girls’ and Boys’ Club’s newly renovated facility; a New Hampshire Creative Club gathering.
All of it back to back to back.
I will be flying around town from 3pm onwards.
Sheesh!
Best enjoy the peaceful sanctuary of the studio while I can, eh? :)
Another day–another critter. :)
I hope you like him.
Plenty of work to do today and I’m off to a bit of a late start. I couldn’t drag my coughing carcass out of bed this morning. Ugh.
Still, some painting should cheer me up. :)
Happy President’s Day, everyone.
Hug a president today, if you know one. ;)

The latest silliness to escape my drawing board.
I hope you like him.
Valentine’s Day grows near and I must prepare a hand-made card for my betrothed. I am thinking perhaps something with watercolors involved would be fun. Don’t worry. My wife never actually reads my blog. My secret is safe. ;)
Onwards to the day’s work!
Oh, and next week the Ninja Mountain Podcast will feature Linda Kattwinkel, a copyright lawyer. Linda will answer our questions about copyright and intellectual property.
If you happen to have any questions I can put forth during the show, please feel free to post them in the comments page of this entry, or head over to the latest Ninja Mountain Podcast show entry at http://ninjamountain.blogspot.com/2010/02/episode-52-ohh-those-peevish-ninjas.html
and post in the comments section for this week’s episode. :)
Have a great weekend!
I return to the blog with a fresh bit of weirdness.
I’ve been battling a cold and cough the last few days and that has slowed me down quite a bit.
I think this critter may have been inspired by it.
My wife and I refer to it scientically as the “sicky yuck-yucks”. Look it up…it’s a medical term I’m sure…or at least will catch on amongst practicing physicians some day.
This week’s Ninja Mountain Podcast will feature my stuffy sounding voice.
I’ll be posting it later today in fact as I was able to get the show edited right after yesterday’s recording.
I now return to my regularly scheduled program of coughing all over my work… :)
Onwards! *Kaff* *Hack*
Fresh weirdness for you to encounter here today.
I have also learned that the Visual Artist Podcast Network has launched.
The Ninja Mountain Podcast is a proud member of the network started by Thomas James of Escape From Illustration Island.
Check it out!
There are many fine shows there that will keep you entertained as you work in the studio. :)
